This week in class has been all about animation in 3DS Max. The first thing we did was watch a series of tutorials on animating, and teaching us about the key frames and tools in 3DS that are specifically for animating. What I got from it was that there are 100 key frames that you can use, what I learned was that whatever you do in between the key frames that you set is what changes when you play the whole thing back. We first did this with a downloaded file that Mr.B gave us of a couple cars that would go down a track. I watched the tutorial on how to change the speeds of the cars with the curve editor and that was very helpful in introducing the basics of animation. The next thing that we did was watch another tutorial on animating 5 boxes and making them rotate during the animation. This was probably the hardest part of the animation process, because I had accidentally had it on auto-key frame which was a mistake, so I had to redo it so many times. Then The last thing that we did was using our space scene that we had made in our maps activity was to make a space ship fly from Earth and off screen. I did this by setting a key frame at 1 and 100, then I placed the camera where I wanted it, and had the moon do a revolution around the earth and changed the speed to pretty high so it would rotate faster than the Earth which I also made spin. Then I started with the spaceship inside the Earth and moved it along the x-axis and pulled it out. That was pretty much all I got done this week in class and I hope to continue working with animation. Summary:

This last week in class has been pretty interesting, we had a substitute teacher for two days and I couldn't ask Mr.B any questions about the assignments which was a problem because I had a lot of them. So for the assignment we had to apply the same 6 materials on every side of a cube, but I (being me) thought that we had to apply a different color to 216 polygons on the cube, which would have taken years, but luckily when Mr.B got back he changed the instructions to make it more clear. The rest of the other parts of the assignments were pretty easy, my favorite part of it was chasnging the colors and materials of the spaceship, because I made mine look really cool. The main part of this assignment was working with materials, so to apply materials you select the part, or polygon of what you want to change the color of and apply an ID to it. Then you press the M-key and apply a standard material then you select what you want from there, for example is I wanted a gradient material I would select that and apply it to the standard material's diffuse then change the colors to what you want. After you've done that you right click on the standard material and select apply material to selection, then you have to render and you will see what your object looks like.

These past couple weeks in class have been pretty fun. We've been doing a project on a PSA, our group chose do do our project on Bulling, because we thought that there needed to be awareness spread about it. The first thing we did was write the script which was Aidan's job but Ray and I gave him input on that. After the script was done I had to make the storyboard, because I am the videographer, and during this time Ray was doing the graphics. After all that was done we could start filming, and over the next couple of days we filmed. Unfortunately some of the footage that we got didn't work, because Ray accidentally forgot his shirt that he wore on the first day so we had to get a lot of our footage form the last day of filming. After all of the filming it was time to get to editing, so i followed the exact storyboard, then showed it to my team and then Ray made some timing adjustments. Once we had what we liked we looked on the rubric and realized that it is too long and had to delete a lot of scenes that didn't make much sense in terms of the PSA. Now I am doing the blog post on the whole process as part of the post production which includes submitting, editing, and posting on YouTube. Summary:
This week after finishing up in Illustrator we started to work in Premiere Pro. This is Adobe's video editing software. The first thing we did was watch a video on how color can tell stories. I thought that this was pretty interesting seeing how some of my favorite movies were in it and I had never thought about it that way. After that we watched an example of what we were about to make, made by Mr. B, next he had us watch a video tutorial on how to create a video with images. The first thing we did was go to a website called Pexels and select images we wanted to use. Next we named them the order that we wanted the shots to be in. Then we had to import the photos through Premiere, after all of the photos were imported we started to put the photos in. Placing the photos was done by dragging and dropping the photos in the order that you want them to be in and then adjusting the amount of time that you wanted the photos to be onscreen. This came into play with another video that Mr.B had us watch which was about increasing intensity through editing, I made some shots super short and some super long. After I was done with the editing the final things I had to do was put the title in and upload it to youtube, first I put in the title by using the text tool and writing BLUE on the first shot. Then it was time to upload and I followed the instruction from one of our note pages and it was as simple as that.

For the past week and a half we have been working in Adobe Illustrator on logos for a diner. The first thing that we had to do was create 20 logos that were a concept of what we wanted the final product to be. The next thing we did was meet with Mr.B and decide which three that we were going to make in illustrator. The main theme of my concepts were flames and burgers. My first logo was a burger with flames behind it and text saying black burn diner on the burger. The first thing I did was find a picture of cartoon flames and trace that using the pen tool and the curvature tool. Then I duplicated the flames three times and changed the colors and made each smaller than the other. The next thing I did was take my burger from the other project and put that in the middle of the flames to make it look like the burger was on fire. Then I did the text, one thing that I realized was that the text on the burger didn't look very good, so I created an oval and used the type on a path tool and made the text curve around the flames. The final thing I did was created a pentagon to enclose the whole thing like on example of diner signs that I looked at. This was a s far as I got so when I get to class Monday I have to do the other two logos.

Over the last two days in class we have started to veer away from Photoshop and start working in Adobe Illustrator. The main difference between the two programs is that bitmap (Photoshop) is using pixels and Vector (Illustrator) is using mathematical equations. The main benefit of using Vector over bitmap is that when you zoom in on an image the vector stays at the same resolution and bitmap becomes more pix-elated. The main tools are also drastically different in the two programs, the one that I am most familiar with is the pen tool, in Illustrator the pen tool is used to create shapes by connecting points and then using the anchors to create the shape you like. In Photoshop the pen tool is also used to connect points but it can only go in straight lines depending on which version of the pen tool you select. Some of the different things that these programs are used for is Photoshop is more for art work and photo editing and Illustrator is mainly used for graphic design and advertisement. Overall the two programs are both used in unique ways and I can't wait to learn more about each of them.
