This week a trailer for the new movie, "Detective Pikachu" was released. Fan's initial opinions were mixed but personally I am looking forward to seeing the film and hoping that it is good. So for this blog post Mr. Bourgeois has tasked us with watching a movie based off a video game and doing a comprehensive review of it. So I decided to watch one of the worst films based off of a video game, "Doom". This film was released in theatre's 2005, and it was directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak and produced by Universal Studios. From an overall entertainment standpoint this movie seemed very cheesy from the beginning, the lines seemed forced, almost as if the actors didn't want to do the movie. Since the game is purely action it couldn't have been that hard to make a movie off of it but Universal Studio's still found a way to mess this movie up, in the game the monsters were demons that came straight from hell but in the film adaptation they are genetic mutations. This was just one of many flaws within the story line, the game is fast paced and filled with combat, while in the film other than the opening scene there is little to no action for the first 30 minutes. The characters just felt too stereotypic it was a team of soldiers who nobody really cared about, running around on mars trying to find these genetic mutations, that is the premise for so many movies and this one was just the same as the others. Overall if you had never played Doom before you probably would have enjoyed the movie but if you have played the game you probably would have came out of the theatre disappointed and wanting your money back.
